The 23 Conference of the International Society for Environmental Epidemiology (ISEE) will be held in Barcelona in September 2011. The ISEE gathers around 1000 professionals from over 60 countries and it is a unique forum for the discussion of the relationship between environment and health.
The organizing committee of the ISEE Conference in Barcelona is the Center for Research in Environmental Epidemiology (CREAL; www.creal.cat), established in Barcelona by the Government of Catalonia in 2005. CREAL develops research, projects in different areas emphasizing the study of respiratory diseases and cancer, child health, and the effects of exposure to air and water pollution and radiation.
The overal theme of the 2011 Conference will be “The Encompassing Face of the Environmental Epidemiology” that is the study of the environmental epidemiology from an integrative perspective. The specific conference topics will range from sustainable transport and health, the impact of climate change, with special emphasis on the Mediterranean, to the study on how early exposure to the environmental factors can determine the presence of diseases in adulthood.
The XXIII Conference of the ISEE, thanks to the assistance of internationally renowned speakers, will allow a thorough analysis of the impact of these issues in our health and in the development of our cities. The joint work of science, industry and citizens is essential to ensure a healthy environment to live in.
